I think the idea that it is made from recycled polyester is good and the fact that we're putting recycling to another use is fantastic. Alice, High School Pupil

Wood Street Mission is a children’s charity based in the centre of Manchester. Founded in 1869, their vision is to help improve children’s lives and reduce the impact that day-to-day poverty can have on their life chances. In Manchester and Salford, more than 1 in 3 children live below the poverty line, and in some areas this increases to 1 in 2. Through the work that they do, they help over 3000 families and 7000 children every year by providing them with everyday essentials, such as food, clothes and bedding, as well as toys and books which are important for children’s wellbeing and development.
We are proud to be the official uniform partner for Wood Street Mission’s SmartStart initiative, which helps local families with the costs of sending a child to school. SmartStart provides children with the necessary school uniform, sports kit and stationery so that they can fit in and improve their chances of achieving at school. As part of our partnership, we will work with and support Wood Street Mission in providing the school clothing that they need, as well holding various fundraising activities throughout the year.
I am so delighted that David Luke has been successful in gaining the opportunity to partner with Wood Street Mission for their Smart Start Project. We have watched the progress of this scheme over the past couple of years with admiration. Being a schoolwear business based in Manchester, with a very strong ethical stance in all that we do, we were so enthusiastic to be involved. To have been chosen by Wood Street Mission is such an honour and we are also thrilled to be able to widen the reach of our environmentally-friendly Eco Uniform to the children of Manchester and Salford. Using recycled plastic bottles to make the Eco-fabric for the blazers is a fantastic way to demonstrate to children how products can go on to become something entirely different through the process of recycling. Students are proud to wear their uniforms. Headteacher, Newport Free Grammar School
